I got this case to keep my spare key in. Criminals these days have the ability to grab your key signal and retransmit it in order to steal your car. All while your key is sitting on a table or hanging on a key rack on the wall. The only way to conveniently stop this from happening is to keep your key stored in a case such as this that is effectively a Faraday cage. This is not some hocus pocus, but is real science. It was found that radio signals can be blocked if the transmitter (or receiver) is placed inside a box made of a conductive mesh-like material. Scientist Michael Faraday first constructed such a device in 1836, hence the name. So what they have done here is to create a Faraday cage small enough to house a key and fit in your pocket. While the key is inside the case it cannot open or close your car because radio signals to it are blocked. So thieves are unable to interrogate the key to grab your key codes. Brilliant, but simple.
It’s all good and fine to have the key you travel with in a Faraday case, but what about the spare key that sits in the night table beside your bed or in the utility drawer in the kitchen? That key is just as vulnerable, which is why I got this very case. This is a bit larger than I would like to be carrying around and should be able to fit two smaller keyfobs with ease. Just be sure to put the keyfob in the pouch and fold over the flap properly or you might have some radio signals seeping through. This might pose a bit of an inconvenience if you have to remove the key too frequently, but since I am using it with a key that is most frequently at home, that is fine. The material the pouch is mde of won’t scratch the keyfob so that is another plus. The exterior material it’s made of seems sturdy and well made. It’s supposed to be genuine carbon fibre, but I am no expert on that so I will leave that as is. Whether or not it is real carbon fibre, is not the point, though. It does what it says it will do and that’s fine by me.

So I used the pouch for two different keys and sizes and it worked with both. I was not able to enter my car nor crank my car with it. The keys fit in the pouch easily. The material that the pouch is made from does not seem to be long lasting and the zipper may not open and close consistently.

Initially was concerned when the signal was still coming through after placing keyfob in the case and zipping shut. Turned out that the fob really needs to be closed and the top flap of the plastic inner cover required to be folded over. The solid heavy duty carbon fiber case is simply a shell but this alone is not what blocks the signal. The magic is in the sleeve that rests inside the case and is super glued inside the case. Was able to remove the sleeve carefully and managed to get the signal to stop escaping. The size of the case is huge and can take 2 fobs easily but the inner sleeve is just enough to handle 1 key. At the moment, using just the sleeve is working and should be fine to prevent door unlocking/ignition starting while parked.

I needed to store my EV keys in an RFID blocking pouch so my car wasn’t constantly searching for the key (and running down the battery). This pouch works great. I will be ordering another one as I have 2 keys and only one fits in each pouch.

Looks great, is pretty large and the connection material for the key ring feels very flimsy. It does seem to semi block rfid but if you get close enough or press it against you body even when fully closed and zipped it does not block the signal.
