It’s a neat idea…the tape fails after a few days due to a gap left at the bottom, the weight of your phone pulls it down…..we stuffed a bunch of business cards under it to wedge it in and keep it from falling

Extremely satisfied with this phone holder. I had been searching for one that would mount in the center rather than off to the left where it was away from the center display. MINI’s don’t have a great spot for dash mounted holders (plus they never stick). This is a great solution to utilize the empty useless space below the hazard button. I’m going to buy another one just in case it breaks and they stop selling them!

After getting my 2021 5-door Mini Cooper hardtop, I was dismayed to find that there wasn’t really any convenient place to put my trusty vent-mounted phone holder. The drivers side vent was too close and put the phone behind the steering wheel where I couldn’t see it. The passenger side vent was too far – I had to really stretch to reach it to get the phone in and out or enter an address into the map. So I embarked on a quest for a phone holder that worked in the Mini. From my research, it seemed like there were 4 types: 1) something that mounted on the dash/windsheld (no, that cuts into the visibilty too much) 2) something that mounted behind the speedometer/tach (no, that leaves a weird arm sticking up in front of you when the phone wasn’t in it) 3) something that mounted to the side of the center circle (no, that would block part of my pretty light-up ring and wasn’t much closer than just clipping to the passenger vent) and 4) one of this type, which mounts into that weird useless gap below the hazard light button. I opted to try this one since it was cheaper than options 2 and 3 and seemed like it would put the phone in the best place for easy reaching/viewing. I read all the reviews for the various options (there were a few different manufacturers on amazon) and opted to go with this one because someone else said it fit their 2021 perfectly — so well that they didn’t even need to use the mounting tape to hold it in.
Well….it didn’t fit mine perfectly, but it was pretty close.
First of all, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this mount. It came nicely packaged in a cute box with mini cooper artwork. And the mount part of this thing is hefty gauge black painted steel — it’s well made. The attachment bits that hold the mount to the holder are plastic and I’m a bit worried about their durability – all of the ones I looked at on amazon had some reviews complaining about the holder or the attachment point breaking. So while the mount is designed to just shove into the gap and stick there with double sided tape, I was reluctant to use the double-sided tape in case it broke and I had to replace it with a new one….I figured the mount might be difficult to remove if it was taped in.
My solution was to cut a small piece of thin velcro wire tie material to the shape of the bottom of the mount and shove it in below the mount. This took up the extra half millimeter of space or so between the mount and the opening and made a very tight pressure fit with no sticky tape needed. You can just see the edge of the velcro below the mount in the last photo attached to this review.
So far, it has held great and getting the phone in and out of the mount is very easy. I have a samsung s10 and my husband has an iphone XR with a rugged case – both phones fit easily. I can mount the phone at the very bottom so it doesn’t block the view of my screen and I can also easily rotate the phone to landscape mode if I wish — it stays put wherever I rotate it. When there’s no phone in this holder, the union jack decoration is a nice touch (it’s a whole separate plastic piece, not just a sticker) and it is very discreet and doesn’t block anything – it honestly looks like an original part of the car.
Time will tell if this holds up but I really hope it does because the usability is great. I’m half tempted to order a few extras for backups right now in case amazon stops carrying these!

Fits perfectly in my 2020 Mini Cooper. Only downside is the phone blocks view of the backup camera some when in reverse but that is no fault of the product and is about the placement of the phone.
