The magnet is strong enough to work with a phone case

It was time to upgrade my plain old phone magnet. It wasn’t holding the new phones well as the models grew heavier, so I finally decided to give MagSafe accessories a try. This one looked easy to install and not too bulky for my small car. It arrived ready to set up straight out of the box. Turning the rear dial extends the little hook past your air vent blade, then reverse to tighten it. Turning the forward dial allows you to set the angle of your phone. The MagSafe connection is fantastic and very strong. At first I thought the holder was sticking out too far, causing the phone to be wobbly, but tightening the rear dial more made the setup solid and secure, and it’s actually very nice to not have my phone directly on the vent blocking air flow. Three days of driving later, I am very happy with this phone holder. It also came with a sticky dash mount I probably won’t use, but it was nice to have the option. The sticker part is good quality 3M, but where I live our summer heat often melts anything sticky into a gooey mess. Might find a spot in the house to use that mount instead!

In one of our cars, the vent has only one horizontal “fin”. This was the ONLY vent clip I found that would work with it. The car is a 2020 Porsche Taycan. The tripod “feet” of this clip surround the vent (I chose the vent closest to the door) and hold it snugly. Since it has a universal ball joint, I chose to use a different MagSafe holder that I could plug in to charge my phone at the same time. For the Taycan, you need a 3meter cable to reach the center armrest from this vent.

The additional feet really do help to stabilize this car mount. The feet along with the metal hook to attach to the vent really hold the car mount in place. That said, the feet does mean that it takes additional space around the vent to securely hold the phone in place. Thus, I was unable to attach the mount to some vents due to space constraints. The magnet was able to securely hold the phone in place even over bumps. The head is a little loose however, and could be slightly tighter (minor complaint). Overall, not a bad car mount.

I am absolutely thrilled with the PureGear Magnetic Car Mount! The setup was super easy – it took only a couple of minutes to have it up and ready to go. Once in place, the grip is incredibly strong; my phone stays secure even on bumpy roads, which is so reassuring. The price is great for the quality, too – I feel like I got excellent value for my money. Overall, it’s a perfect balance of affordability and performance. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and easy-to-use car mount!

If you prefer Wired carplay, you don’t need a magsafe charger in your car since it’s plugged in, BUT, it’s still the most convenient way to hold your phone. This is the mount you need. This is one of the few types of mounts that you can use, with one hand, without having to touch anything either to attach or release the phone. Just drop the phone on and just grab it off. It was very easy and simple to install, and provides a very strong magnet. It holds our phones, even my 13 Pro Max which has a ring-shaped stand where the ring normally is.

For the most part, this phone holder works well. The magnet is strong, and it holds my iPhone 16 Plus securely. I did have some minor issues figuring out where to place the 2 bottom feet. This might just be the oddly shaped vents in my vehicle? The feet do seem to add to the stability. Overall, I do like it, but I might be switching to the surface mount option.

I have a 2019 Hyundai Tucson, and the car’s display console is right above the air vents. I also have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is a pretty large phone. I was using a cup holder phone mount but didn’t like that I had to give up one of the holders. It was also tall and bulky looking, so I wanted to find an alternative.
Adding a mobile phone mount to the air vents, along with my big phone, could potentially disrupt the view of the console or break the vent levers if not installed carefully. I had concerns like, will my phone block airflow? Can I move the vent levers if I want to redirect the air? Will the mount weaken the integrity of the vent levers and break them?
Initially, I had a difficult time installing this three-pronged phone mount. When I installed it just on the vent levers, it very easily came loose even before I tried it with my phone. I had to keep readjusting it and never really got it to work properly. I was ready to give up but went online and found a custom phone mount specifically for my model car. It put most of the pressure on the dashboard piece between the vents, allowing the vents to still be used as intended. It was WAY out of my price range, so with its design in mind, I went back to my car and tried installing this one again.
This time, I installed it on the passenger side vent, with the metal hook very close to the center section between the driver and passenger vents. I made sure that the two lower arms of the mount were pressing up against the dashboard below the vents, and the upper piece of the mount was pressing up against the space between the two vents rather than on the vent levers. Really, the only piece of the mount touching the air vent levers is the metal hook holding it on. The passenger vent can’t be adjusted up or down, but it can be adjusted side to side, which is not ideal.
The magnet is strong and holds my phone securely when driving, and I set it low enough so that my large phone does not hide the display console. I still worry that the mount will break the vent lever, but I will keep an eye on it. The mount does come with an adapter piece that allows the mount to be stuck directly to the dashboard with adhesive. There really isn’t anywhere I can utilize this on my car, and I don’t like the idea of putting sticky stuff on it.
I received this PureGear Magnetic Car Mount, MagSafe Compatible for free with the promise of an honest review through Amazon Vine. The list price today is $16.99, which I think is a little overpriced since it doesn’t really work to my expectations. Overall, this is just an OK phone mount for a 2019 Hyundai Tucson and an iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it might be great for your model car and phone.
