Perfect fit exact replacement for my 1998 Silverado, 5.7L vortec. I’ve been chasing an electrical problem on this truck for 3 years. Every spring or during times of heavy rain/humidity the truck won’t start or if it does start it stumbles and fouls out the rotor cap. I’ve replaced the coil (non AC Delco), the cap at least 5 times with various brands, plugs, wires, checked voltage and resistance and could not find a single problem. I was getting ready to replace the distributor when I stumbled across the ignition module in forums. This tricky little devil very well may be my problem. I’ve inspected it over the years but the original does not show any external signs of failure. I have noted that it gets extremely hot during use so be careful if you reach for it right after shutdown. I also installed a new AC Delco coil in conjunction with this module. Upon inspection of the 8 month old Parts store coil I found the insulation parting from the housing and cracked in multiple spots. The after market coil from the parts store cost 3 times as much as I bought the AC Delco for here on Amazon with prime shipping. Can’t beat Anazon most times. Thanks Amazon. I will update this post if I have issues after the next rain/humidity.

i had a code p1352 on my 96 fleetwood. i replaced the ignition control module with a delphi unit thinking it was just as high quality as ac delco for much less money..
Boy was i wrong. i got the code p1351 instead. the car ran fine. but thw code wouldnt go away. i then forked over the $85 bucks for this one and the check engine light finally went away.
lesson learned. dont buy cheap.. it will cost you more at the end.

The ignition control module that I received appears to be an authentic OEM AC Delco part. It did not solve the issue with my truck, which ended up being a faulty relay, however the motor is running stronger after replacing the cheap icm that was installed by the previous owner. I wouldnt have replaced it had I not been trying to solve an unrelated issue, but I am glad that I did considering the difference that it made.

Bought the Delco ICM when the earlier purchased Delphi unit failed after 6 months while driving on Fl Turnpike. Needed it to correct random missing between 40-65 mph mostly; more frequent in rain and high humidity. Original equipment unit lasted 22 years in ’96 Chevy Tahoe. Although Delphi unit came with thermal grease packet for heat transfer, it was very thin and probably was part of the reason the cheaper part failed, maybe burned out. When it failed at 60 mph, timing went completely off, like there was no timing, and had to pull over as car petered out in a few seconds. Delco unit didn’t come with thermal grease packet but bought Thermaltake TG-7 thermal grease off the shelf for $8.00 at Best-Buy, which seems like a good product; had a whole syringe of it instead of a thin little packet. Delphi unit had seemed to give a little higher acceleration but Delco piece restored vehicle to slow and steady pace, the way it had been originally.

Packaging was in a plastic bag not a box, let alone a box with ACDelco all over it. This I do not understand as the coil I ordered at the same time, is bigger, and came in a box, inside a bubble wrap envelope. No where on this item is stamped ACDelco … I ordered the ACDelco D577 GM Original Equipment Ignition Coil at the same time. My vehicle has 285K miles, and I am replacing all electrical components on the engine. The engine was running good before I replaced these parts, no performance issues, just a somewhat rough idle which is common with these engines. It ran a bit smoother after replacing the parts. I have only put about five miles on the vehicle since changing the parts so I can not give you a history. Since the original parts were still working I would think these ACDelco parts will give the same performance for the next 300K miles.

Maybe the AC Delco is a lot more expensive than the knock off parts but at least it works as intended and I think it will last like the last one did -133,000 miles – so years. So before I bought this, I thought if I bought three cheap ICMs (12 dollars each) that one would be good. I put the the heat conductive paste on each one and they did not even work the first time. Two would start the the engine but I had such abundant misfires, it would stall at 1100 RPMS and one did not work at all. I thought it was other parts so I replaced a lot of parts until I replaced this with the OEM AC Delco and the engine runs great again. This taught me a lesson, do research and buy the OEM GM parts (those that have proven themselves) and save yourself time and money even if they are a lot more expensive than the China knock offs.

Not made clear that this is a USED product. But a working used part is better than a non working one

Exact fit and made the truck run like new. perfect and worth the money for the one with the metal back… STAY AWAY from plastic ones, they die of internal heat retention. you must use the metal backed ones with a heat conducting paste with attachment to the heat sink to make it last. Don’t waste your money replacing it if you don’t use the paste and do it right.
