I use full synthetic oil in my car so the car’s sensors generally have me change it around 5K-7K. When I take the filter out, other than being very dirty, the filter still holds its shape and doesn’t collapse. When I have worked on parts inside my engine, the engine is really clean. So it appears that the filter is doing its job well. Can’t beat the price compared to some other brands. I have used several of these without any problems. They work just as well as the OEM as far as I can tell. I would recommend this filter to others.

Sure looks as sturdy as the Mann ones I’ve bought in the past for my 2012 Jetta, (which don’t seem to be made in Germany anymore anyway) and quite a bit cheaper….will know in April 2019 when I do my next oil change

2020 Review: After years of buying ECOGARD because of cheaper price and near identical product, I bought a MANN filter to compare the quality. The MANN filter is exactly the same, with the exception of 50 pleats and only 1 gasket vs. 48 pleats and 2 gaskets for ECOGARD. Overall the build of the ECOGARD seems better than MANN, which is the standard OEM filter for VAG. These are so close, that you don’t need to split hairs – just buy whatever is cheaper. Both filters have been used interchangeably and now I am over 200,000 miles with regular synthetic oil and regular filter changes. If you want a fancy filter, look for FRAM Ultra Synthetic which is very sturdy with various and multiple layers used for high mileage intervals. If you’re already lifting the car, then you might as well change the filter too and remove the contaminants with the oil, which is why I recommend ECOGARD.

2017 Review: I have not installed this oil filter yet, but it is made in China and not Mexico like the Mann filters nor in Canada like the Fram filters. These do seem to be the same quality as the Mann filters, because they have 48 pleats, similar paper media, and are held by melted foam on the openings. These do come with the gaskets, so I’m happy about that. From the look and feel of it, I do not think these should underperform the Mann filters. I am trying this out because I used the Fram long life filters and haven’t changed the filter in two oil changes, so I want to compare and contrast the different experiences.
