Worked perfectly on my 96 E36 M3 coupe…however I used the clips from the OEM struts as the ones supplied are not exactly the same design. To remove old ones, just slightly spread old ones apart to remove from old struts and bend back a little extra before sliding them on the new struts to ensure a snug fit. When you install the new struts, make sure the clip seats in the groove in the mounting pin. I had to seat the clip in the groove by slightly tapping it on ALL THE WAY with a small hammer and screwdriver. Quite simple overall! Took me about 20 mins.
They work great and are an absolute bargain at $14.99 for the pair!

They arrived fast and installed easily. I had to use the old clips as the new ones will not grasp the mounting posts correctly. Too big….
Now my hood works perfectly.

Two problem with these replacements: 1) The clips are not made of spring steel, so when you push them into the hole, the clip will bend back and not provide tension to the groove on the pin. This allows it to slide right out, which is a bad situation. 2) The mounting holes are larger than they should be. Due to the slack between the large hole and pin, it causes the pin mount to bend. Now the pin is no longer perpendicular to the shock, which makes it slide off when the hood is closed. Some stated that they used the old clips. This helps to initially keep the shock in place. But as the mount starts to bend, it will pop out in time due to the force on the crooked pin.

Work great, the clips were a little loose on my car but also the mounts were a little worn on my car, nothing a pair of needle nose pliers and a steady hand can’t fix. Can’t beat the price!

Compared to the cost of genuine BMW replacement parts, these are a fraction of the cost. That was the primary driver for buying these, and that it seems a low tech item that would be okay to not be OEM. I just installed them in about 30 mins. They work well on this initial installation and we’ll see how long they last. The original OEM pair lasted for 20 years! The struts themselves seem decently made. Strangely, it is the 5 cent metal clips to hold them in place that don’t do their jobs! Poor engineering of the clips makes the replacements useless if the don’t stay on the hood! Fortunately, I was able to pull the original clips off the OEM parts (second photo) and reuse them with these Boxi replacements. That is why the one star off rating.

Great replacement hood struts, the price is super low and the product is really good, the clips are not the best, but not an issue, I reused the old ones, I highly recommend these struts for those on a budget, they work, they are affordable, and good quality, five star for affordability and prompt delivery.

Install was straightforward, but the included mounting clamps that secure the strut/shock to the mounting points were essentially ineffective. I ended up having to reuse two original clamps because the new ones didn’t secure the struts/shocks to the mounting points. That may have bought one star, but what secured the 2-star was in less than a month, one of the struts/shocks broke at the mounting location. Snapped right off. Only reason it’s got two stars is the other one seems just fine so it may have been a fluke for me but here we are.

This product is not up to the level of quality for BMW. The BMW strut has a solid construction. The piston part has a screw in eye which is welded on the OEM. Additionally, clips the retain the strut over the eye and fit to car: cheap non-functional, doesn’t fit and easily knocked out of place. I had to remove the clips from the OEM part and put on these. They then held to strut in place. The length of the shock is not the same as the OEM. The “window washer tub holder” had to be “rigged” to fit. Thus, not a direct fit. I would definitely not recommend these for a BMW. I would return but have already install and used.
1. On the passenger side strut, there is a plastic bracket that clips on to hold the washer sprayer tube. This bracket did not clip on the new strut. I had to modify the bracket and use electrical tape to hold it on. I would think that a bracket should be included with the new part as it is advertised as an exact OEM replacement.
2. Otherwise, they are not an acceptable replacement.
