I’ve used 3M to remove heavy oxidation from my boats in the past, so this is the standard Star Brite was up against. First of all, Star Brite’s compound is not a thick as 3M, so the same amount of Star Brite compound seems to cover a bit more area. The instructions also stated that after buffing, you should let the product dry (haze) and then wipe off. I mention this because it’s different than the some of the other products I’ve used.
General observations:
1. Star Brite Liquid Rubbing Compound for Heavy Oxidation works well and removed severe oxidation on my boat and outboard motor cowling.
2. It works better when applied by hand or by drill. I used a foam applicator pad (heavy cut) powered by my cordless 12V drill. It did not work as well with my Makita buffer.
3. Use the product sparingly — a little goes a long way
4. It’s better used in temperatures under 85 degrees, as if it is allowed to be in the hazed state too long, it’s harder to remove.
5. adding on to #4….be sure to apply in small areas at one time and remove product promptly after it hazes.
Bottom line: A very good compound. My results, with a drill and foam pad, were comparable with what I have achieved with 3M and a Makita buffer. So IMHO, if you purchase Star Brite you won’t be disappointed.

I use to use this product in the late 70s early 80s It was amazing. Maybe it’s the new finishes but it did not perform at all like it use to. I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone.

I ordered and received the compound. Great service and definitely first rate shipping. I am a satisfied Amazon customer. The compound is less than I expected for removing old dull surface blemishes and oxidized coatings. I would expect the product to cut through the old layers of wax and dulling crud. This rubbing compound gave a shine to my boat but left me with the feeling of simply adding another coat of wax. I had cleaned the fiberglass hull with Star Brite hull cleaner, great stuff, but after applying the Star Brite rubbing compound the fiberglass body seemed to lose the vibrancy I wanted. The Star Brite marine polish was more in the way of restoring the finish and right now this product rates a 10 on the 1- 10 scale. I am waiting to see if it will stand the time test for keeping my boat looking good.

Nothing wrong with this product. I bought it to clean a housing on the outside of a pool. It worked okay.

Didn’t work as expected in removing oxidation. When it dried, it was like removing bubble gum off the finish. I switched to Meguiars liquid rubbing compound with better success.
