You get what you pay for. The pistons on these struts are very strong, but it opens the hatch dangerously fast. I shut the liftgate on my 1996 XJ and the latch didn’t fully engage, so the hatch sprung open at warp speed. So hard that it actually broke the plastic heads (that fasten to the joint on the jeep) of both struts at one end. The hatch then slammed down extremely hard and fast. Had I not jumped back, I may not be writing this review. The mounting points on these struts are very cheap plastic for the amount of pressure being exerted on them. Poor quality and dangerous in my opinion.

Can confirm this will fit a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. Install was quick and easy. You’ll want to prop the hatch open as far up as it will go when installing. Can’t believe I waited so long to replace the old ones.

These struts are great once installed but there are some not so intuitive things you’ll want to know to make installation easier. Unfortunately instructions are not included so I learned by trial and error.
First, prop your lift gate open with a broom so it isn’t coming down on your head when you’re working.
Second, remove the bottom clip/ball side of the old strut first. This will allow you to move the strut around making access to and removing the screws on the top end easier. Mount the new ones in reverse order, but leave the screws on top slightly loose till you connect the bottom ball/clip joint.
Third, the strut shafts are able to be unscrewed a bit, allowing a small amount of adjustment in length should they not line up exactly with your mounting points.
Fourth, and my biggest discovery. The struts can sway out to either side because of a ball joint on the top screw side, and they seem to be able to sway more to the side with the rounded head of the pin that goes thru this ball joint. So install the screw end of the strut with the rounded pin facing to the outside of your vehicle (i.e. the two strut’s rounded heads will be facing opposite each other), see pic. This will allow the strut more sway to connect the bottom clip/ball end to tour vehicle’s mounting point, and reduce overall strain on the strut when it functions.
Finally, I bent one of the clips on the new struts to where it couldn’t be used to connect the bottom clip/ball side of the strut. So I used one of the clips from my old struts to secure it, which worked fine. Note: you don’t have to pull the clip all the way off to get it to disconnect or to reconnect it.
Once installed they work great; my Jeep’s lift gate pops open like it’s new!

I bought an old 1995 Cherokee several years back, used, and the struts on the back hatch were dead, mainly during cold weather. I used vice grips to hold the hatch up in wintertime. Finally I decided to replace them and ordered this set, well actually two sets. I found them difficult to install, and ruined one of the first set of two. I bought a second set and finally got two of the supports installed. It wasn’t easy. Was it the fault of the struts or the Jeep? I don’t know. Anyway, now that two are installed, the hatch springs up when opened, and it takes a bit of muscle to close it. I’m quite satisfied, and they weren’t too expensive.
