  2. MarioM

Accordung to the mechanic part is poor quality

  3. lessismore

Looks like the OEM, smells like it, maybe tastes like it. Well it doesn’t seem to have been manufactured under the same high quality control standards as the original. Buyer beware. (FYI I am 53, engineer, former navy nuke machinist’s mate, navy pilot and have been working on cars since 16. Replaced valve cover gaskets and timing belts on 4cyl hondas a V6 maxima (total bitch) plus all sorts of other somewhat challenging jobs. My car- 07 Z4 3.0i). If you buy this you might want to also invest in a helicoil or other thread replacement system as two of the corner cover holes did not line up properly on the head. I detected the problem when I tried to finger tighten the bolts (there is zero play in the cover to tweak it and there shouldn’t be). This was only just the beginning of the problems. I managed to get everything back together (If I have to pull it off I’ll be rethreading two holes) and upon starting the engine noticed immediately there was a problem due to a very un-BMWesque smooth idle. After researching I determined the potential cause as not following proper procedure during re-install of valvetronic motor. Well that wasn’t it. After driving to work and having it stall several times I checked the oil level due to noticing oil on top of the cover (not the vanity cover. I recommend not installing it until you’ve driven the car, hard). Well the level was down from FULL, then after I got closer to home I checked it again and it was down to the “1QT” reading, so it lost 1qt of oil in 24 miles (uh obviously a big problem) but the strange thing is I saw/smelled no smoke. I started thinking I was going to have to pull the cover but after a bit of contemplation decided to swap the new cover’s valvetronic gasket with the 11 yr old factory original on the old cover. That seems to have solved the problem, but I am still not fully convinced everything is back to normal as the SES msg came on after driving the car hard for the first time, then went out on its own after the code cleared. Good luck if you buy this unit. Although I can’t say if the $400 BMW authorized version would be any better. BTW if your car has 60K or more miles and you haven’t changed your serpentine belt DO IT IMMEDIATELY (search for it and you’ll see why).

    I didn’t believe other reviews or their ability to replace this part without user error. I wanted to believe it could be a valid replacement part at a fraction of the cost of aftermarket options and seemly free compared to an OEM one from BMW North America. Unfortunately, it’s only good hypothetically, in reality, it’s as follows ;
    1. It’s poorly made, using inferior plastic and rubbers that will fail rapidly.
    2. It is physically different dimensions in shape (fit) and thickness.
    3. Not really as cheap as you think. Gaskets that come with should be discarded and good, okay or the cheapest set you can find so long as it’s not from this terrible source.
    4. It’s been less than 100 miles and it’s warping already. Gaskets replaced, (failed) eccentric shaft seal gasket didn’t seal and it came with the cover. Oil cap from old valve cover leaking (that may just need a new seal ring, haven’t gotten it yet.
    5. In 17 years of turning wrenches this is one of the worst parts I’ve ever experienced. And I’ve seen some backwards a** rednecks who made their own parts and this, this is way worse.
If you wanna cheap out, buy a used OEM cover on ebay along with some epoxy to seal any cracks and a new PCV valve for $20.

  5. Alex Venegas

The valve cover is fine. But the gasket that comes with it is cheap. After installing the valve cover, the very same day it leaked oil from the gaskets. Then I had to buy a better brand gasket and reinstall the valve cover and then I had no leaks.

  6. Carlos Echeverria

  7. Joe Ickes

Similar to another review, two of the valve cover corner holes (front left and rear right) did not line up properly with the engine head. I also detected the problem when I tried to finger tighten the bolts, but was hoping that after properly torqueing the bolts that the holes would line up since they weren’t very far off from lining up (less than 1mm). Unfortunately, the holes never lined up and I suspect that I probably damaged the threads on the head in these two locations. I have kept the old/original BMW valve cover in case I need to swap it back.

1/8/19 – As anticipated, this new valve cover assembly is already leaking worse than the original valve cover (which was on the car for 180k miles). Back to the drawing board…

  8. Kal

So far so good, only 100 km since replacement. Whistling sound gone. No more oil on spark plug.

  9. Smove

Watch out for bad screws. If you can buy your own BMW set for this. The cover fits great but the screws are bad. Anyway they have a great CS
