This cable will work, but probably only as good as the cheaper B&M cable (the black ones). This red cable appears to be constructed well, but when you try to actuate it, it has about 3/16 to 1/4″ of backlash between push and pull!
That’s ~0.250″ of backlash.
This is terrible compared to the 80833 which has 0.015″ of backlash.
Don’t get this cable thinking it’s “just as good” as the real one. It only looks that way. You might as well just get a knock off black version of this cable for even cheaper.

Excellent! This new cable has made shifting a dream! Honestly I’ve hated the B&M shiffter since I met it. (Sorry) Like wrestling a bull – if I could get it to shift at all. Its in my boyfriends Jeep & he didn’t think it was big issue & could shift it fine- most of the time ( Very stubborn guy) Anyway I was really so happy to order this for review as clearly he was not going to buy the part and fix it !! Finally I got to swap out the cable (which I suspected all along) in the middle of the night and prove what a big deal it was & also have him see how easy shifting should be!! Bonus I was hoping to see some value in this shifter I’ve loathed much !!! With proper install and adjustment procedure this is easy to install! I had no trouble at all. Checked for easy removal at the shift postion sensor swival pin in Park then 1st then every gear down & back again , checked reverse light activation, and start in P&N for accuracy (block all 4 wheels from both sides when working alone – dont get run over) Everything was on point. AFTER adjustment & complete testing of the shift postion/ eletrical, which doesn’t take long and really let’s you know if your adjustment & backlash is on point. Chances are if you think you need a new cable YOU ESPECIALLY really need to run through the PROPER adjustment procedure.( not just pip one out and one back in without any thought!!) Its easier to do this with helper if you can. IT turned out the old cable had a hidden melted area on the outer sheath. I was able to route this new one higher from the exhaust and with a slightly different route to prevent any issue with the new cable melting & installed loose zip tie loops on the straight run to keep it high & over the trans instead of the exhaust. The cable is doing great and really – what an amazing difference! Finally got to hear him say “omg it has never shifted Iike this” & then “Now i gotta worry someone could steaL it , i mean AnyBodY can drive it now”- Oh boy ; LOL, Anyway I am very happy with this cable. WE are happy with this cable. The LS & 4L60e are SuPeR HappY.
It has much thicker outer sheath and overall is a larger diameter than the one that was on there before. The Red cable that was installed previously was installed with the B&M Hammmer shifter – We thought, or assumed, it WAS B&M but are NOT actually sure after seeing these together. For that reason I can’t say for sure I’ve compared this to the B&M premium cable. This cable works 100% and we have no slop. Instructions DO NOT come with cable, but , Cable Install and adjustment procedure for the 4L60E tranmission were followed with perfect results. Always follow procedure for best results (2 cents )
This cable is a great value and I would 100% order again!!
