At least one of them makes a slight squeaking noise as the roof lifts toward the top

The quality of the struts was very good and I was able to replace both trunk struts in about 10 minutes. A very easy fix with nothing but a small flat blade screw driver. See YouTube for the easy procedure.

get a small flat head screw driver. slip it under the metal clips, at the top and bottom, and pop them off. grab the old piston and twist and pull it off. take the new one and line up the holes and push it on. that’s one minute. repeat on other side and that’s now 2 minutes. you’re done! perfect fit and they function well. the old ones were shot and no longer held up the tail gate. 2 days shipping. cheap price. problem solved!

Perfect fit. Easy install. Much cheaper in cost than OE, with great lift and functionality. This is the second set I installed on our vehicles and will reorder from A-Premium as needed for the other vehicles when required.

Installed these on a 2008 Honda CRV to replace weak shocks that may have been the original ones. I put a bike rack on the tailgate and occasionally the old shocks wouldn’t be able to hold it up. O’Reilly quoted about $40 per shock, so I tried these. Came in a long box with absolutely no instructions, but you don’t need any. It’s easier with a helper to hold up the tailgate, but if you’re > 6′ you can do it solo. You need a small short slotted screwdriver. Take the new ones out of their bags so they’re ready to go. Take any extra weight like a bike rack off the tailgate. Open it and rest the plastic part of the tailgate on your head. Pry the metal clips off each end of each of the old shocks with the screwdriver and discard those. Pull near the end of one of the old shocks, knowing the tailgate will get a lot heavier when you do. Lift the gate as high as you can so the shock is unloaded when you try to pry it off; that should also make it easier to pry it off. The hinges will keep the gate lined up, but your head or a helper needs to hold it up. Press a new shock on; you don’t need to remove the clip from the new one to get the shock on, and you’ll probably damage the clip if you try. Get the new shock on before moving on to remove the 2nd old shock, so the tailgate always has at least one shock helping to support it.
They are clearly stronger than the old ones, and can easily hold the tailgate up even with a two-bike rack on the back as shown. They make an odd noise at the very end of their travel – can’t tell if it’s a scraping sound or gas being forced out of them. I don’t mind it; I just think of it as an audio clue that the tailgate is fully raised.

First time I have ever tried to install something like this. I watched a YouTube video, and it was a snap. Less than 5 minutes to install both and saved myself alot of money from going to the dealer.

My son’s 2007 Honda CR-Vs struts had gotten lazy on his rear hatch. They would fail occasionally when it was particularly cold or his car was parked on a steep hill. We were able to swap the originals out for this set in less than 15 minutes start to finish (probably less than 10 but I wasn’t timing it ). They new ones are night-and-day better. Great, inexpensive, do it yourself fix!
